Home to history that spans from the medieval ages to WWII to today
This room is named for a very special young woman with a dramatic story: Violante. Born during the 14th century, she was the youngest in her family, a graceful and innocent girl. She loved painting and embroidery – a good girl. When she was 20 years old, she fell madly in love with a young man. Unfortunately, the boy was very poor and unsuitable for her to marry. The two ran away, escaping discovery for two years before Violante’s father found them. They professed their deep love of one another to him – in vain. The stern man exiled the boy and sent his daughter to a nunnery, where she lived out the rest of her life.
